To send a large WhatsApp campaign without leaning on one number, spread it across several. Give each number a modest daily share, randomised gaps between messages and quiet hours at night, and let the campaign carry on when one number drops out. WavesFlo runs one campaign across up to 250 connected numbers on Growth and up to 50,000 on Enterprise, subject to plan.
When a campaign outgrows one number, the instinct is to send faster from that number. It is the wrong lever. A single number asked to carry ten thousand messages in a day is a single point of failure, and everything that depends on it stops when it does. This guide covers the alternative, breadth, and the limits every send should pass through on the way out.
Why use many WhatsApp numbers instead of one?
Two hundred messages from each of fifty numbers is the same ten thousand messages as ten thousand from one. The difference is what happens when something goes wrong. With a fleet, a number that drops out simply leaves rotation and the campaign carries on across the rest. With one number, the campaign ends.
So treat each number as an object with its own state: a health score, a daily allowance, and a connection you can restart without touching anything else. WavesFlo distributes the work across your connected numbers instead of queueing it behind a single one. The features page shows what each number carries, and replies to every number land in one shared inbox.
Each number is linked by QR code from WhatsApp's Linked devices screen. As of October 2026, WhatsApp's help centre allows up to four linked devices per account and logs them out if the main phone goes unused for more than 14 days, so keep every phone in the fleet in use. Connecting a number with Linked devices walks through it.
How many messages should each WhatsApp number send?
Pacing is not one setting. It is several independent limits, each catching a different way a campaign can go wrong. These are the defaults WavesFlo ships with, and each can be adjusted, within floors no setting removes:
| Limit | Default | What it catches |
|---|---|---|
| Delay between messages | Randomised, 30 to 300 seconds | A list messaged in one burst |
| Daily ceiling per number | 500 sends | One number carrying too much. Reaching it takes that number out of rotation until the window resets |
| Hourly ceiling per number | 60 sends | A day's allowance spent in twenty minutes |
| Cooldown per recipient | 24 hours, across campaigns | Anyone hearing from you twice in a day |
| Quiet hours and allowed weekdays | Quiet from 22:00 to 08:00 in your own timezone; you choose the weekdays | Sends at night or on days you haven't allowed. A campaign scheduled outside them waits |
Those are WavesFlo's defaults, not WhatsApp's. WhatsApp's help centre gives no daily message figure for the app; what it describes are limits on reaching many people at once, such as forwarding and, in some countries, a monthly broadcast cap. WhatsApp also announced in October 2025 that it is testing a monthly limit on messages to people who haven't replied, without publishing a number. Messages nobody answers count against it, which is one more reason to message only people who asked. The daily limit guide sets out each one.
Why randomised gaps beat a fixed interval
A message every twelve minutes from six in the morning to midnight is 91 sends in a perfectly even rhythm, and on past 22:00 into the night. Nothing a person does looks like that. The same number under the default limits sends far fewer messages, at irregular intervals, and stops at quiet hours. The safety page draws the two patterns side by side.
Fewer messages per number is the point, not a cost. The volume comes back through breadth.
What happens when one WhatsApp number disconnects?
Connected numbers can stop being connected, and no tool can promise otherwise. What matters is what happens next: you are told, the number leaves rotation, campaigns continue on the numbers that remain, and you reconnect it from the dashboard. This is the practical argument for running many numbers rather than depending on one. What a restricted account means covers the warning signs, and running multiple WhatsApp accounts the ways to hold more than one number.
A checklist before your next large campaign
- Add numbers before raising any ceiling. Breadth is the safe way to grow volume.
- Keep the default limits unless you have a specific reason to change one.
- Schedule inside the hours your audience is awake, and inside your allowed weekdays.
- Honour opt-outs everywhere. WavesFlo enforces them at send time across every campaign.
- Send a test to your own phone first.
- Watch the delayed and blocked counters during the run. A blocked send is a logged send.
If your audience sits in groups rather than contact lists, the same pacing applies to sending one message to many WhatsApp groups. To see these limits on your own numbers, book a demo.
Questions
How many WhatsApp numbers can one campaign use?
WavesFlo runs a campaign across up to 250 connected numbers on Growth and up to 50,000 on Enterprise, subject to plan. Each number keeps its own health score and daily allowance.
How many messages should one number send a day?
WavesFlo's default ceiling is 500 sends a day and 60 an hour per number, with a randomised 30 to 300 second gap between messages. Each limit can be adjusted, within floors no setting removes.
Does WhatsApp set a daily message limit per number?
As of October 2026, WhatsApp's help centre gives no daily message figure for the app. WhatsApp limits forwarding to five chats at a time and broadcast lists to 256 contacts each, and in some countries caps broadcasts at 35 free messages a month. It is also testing a monthly limit on messages to people who haven't replied, and hasn't published the number.
What happens if a number disconnects mid-campaign?
In WavesFlo, you are told, the number leaves rotation and the campaign continues on the numbers that remain. You reconnect it from the dashboard.
Can one team answer replies from all the numbers?
Yes. In WavesFlo's shared inbox, conversations from every connected number arrive in one list, and each reply goes out on the number the conversation came in on.
