WhatsApp QR code generator: A QR code that opens a WhatsApp chat with you
Type a number and, if you like, the first message, then download the code as PNG or SVG. Nothing you type leaves your browser.
Generator
Spaces, dashes and a leading 0 are fine. A number that already starts with its country code: type a + first.
Your QR code
Enter a WhatsApp number to make its QR code.
How it works
How does a WhatsApp QR code work?
A WhatsApp QR code is a wa.me click-to-chat link drawn as a code. Scanning it opens a chat with your number, with your message already typed if you added one. The link is the same one the WhatsApp link generator makes.
The code holds a wa.me link: https://wa.me/ followed by the full international number, and ?text= with your message if you add one.
Someone points their phone camera at it and taps the link it shows. WhatsApp opens a chat with your number, without saving it as a contact.
If you added a message, it is already typed in the chat box. They can change it before sending, and nothing is sent until they tap send.
The code never expires and costs nothing to use, because it is only a link. Change the number or the message and you need a new code.
Printing
How do you print a WhatsApp QR code so it scans?
Print dark on light. The download is dark squares on white with the blank border scanners need, so leave that border on.
Download the SVG for print: it stays sharp at any size. The PNG suits documents, slides and social posts.
Make it big enough to scan from where people stand, and test it with two different phones before the print run.
Say what the code does next to it, such as "Scan to chat with our showroom on WhatsApp". People scan codes they understand.
Keep the message short. A longer message makes a denser code, which is harder to scan when printed small.
Where it goes
Where should you put a WhatsApp QR code?
Shop counters, billing desks and delivery boxes, so a customer can ask a question without saving a number.
Brochures, visiting cards, posters and event standees.
Invoices and receipts, pointed at the number that handles payments or service.
Product packaging and manuals, with a message that names the product.
Property boards and site offices, a different message on each so you can tell which one was scanned.
Questions
How do I make a QR code for my WhatsApp number?
Type the number with its country code into the generator on this page, add a pre-filled message if you like, and download the code as PNG or SVG. Scanning it opens a WhatsApp chat with that number.
Does a WhatsApp QR code expire?
No. The code holds a wa.me link, and the link keeps working for as long as the number has an active WhatsApp account. Make a new code only if the number or the message changes.
Can I add a message to a WhatsApp QR code?
Yes. Add it in the pre-filled message box. It appears typed in the chat when someone scans, and they can edit it before sending. A different message on each code tells you which one a chat came from.
Can I see how many people scanned my WhatsApp QR code?
No. The code is a plain link with no tracking, and WhatsApp doesn't report link opens. You see the chats that arrive.
Should I download the PNG or the SVG?
SVG for anything printed, because it stays sharp at any size. PNG for documents, slides, websites and social posts.
Is this WhatsApp QR code generator free?
Yes. It runs in your browser: the number and message aren't sent to WavesFlo or stored anywhere, and the code works without an account.
One inbox for every scanned code.
