As of October 2026, WhatsApp can't repeat a message by itself: ordinary chats can't be scheduled, group events have no repeat option, and business broadcasts are scheduled one send at a time. Daily, weekly or monthly WhatsApp reminders need an automation such as iPhone Shortcuts, n8n or Power Automate, or campaign software with recurring schedules.

Recurring messages are among the most useful things to send on WhatsApp, and the easiest to get wrong: a fee reminder to a parent who paid yesterday, or a Monday price list still quoting last week's rates. This guide covers what WhatsApp offers, the main ways to repeat a message, examples, an n8n setup, and the mistakes that get you muted.

Does WhatsApp have recurring messages?

No. This is what WhatsApp itself offers for timed messages, and why none of it repeats:

What WhatsApp offers for timed messages, as of October 2026
FeatureRepeats?What it does instead
Ordinary chats and groupsNoNo scheduling yet. WABetaInfo reported a scheduler for chats and groups in testing in June 2026, for one-off messages up to two weeks ahead; its reports don't mention repeats.
Group eventsNo repeat optionOne event with a date and time. People who answer Going or Maybe are notified when it starts, and the creator can set earlier reminders.
Business broadcastsNoOne send, now or at a scheduled time, paid per delivered message after any free ones. You can duplicate an earlier broadcast to send it again.
Greeting and away messagesOnly as repliesAutomatic replies to people who message you, in the Business app. An away message can follow a schedule, but it only ever answers incoming messages.

Events have one more catch in groups: members who join later can't see events created before they joined, so an event can't carry a reminder that must reach everyone every week. For one-off timed messages, how to schedule a WhatsApp message compares the workarounds.

How do you send a recurring WhatsApp message?

Ways to repeat a WhatsApp message, as of October 2026
MethodHow it repeatsInto groups?Needs your phone at send time? The catch
iPhone ShortcutsTime of Day trigger: daily, weekly on chosen days, or monthly on a chosen dateNo: it is set up for a contactYesSome set-ups still wait for you to tap Send, so test it
Android scheduler appDepends on the appYesYesIt operates WhatsApp through Accessibility, which can see your screen
n8nSchedule Trigger: from minutes to months, or a cron expressionOnly with a connector that can post to groupsNoMonthly runs skip months that lack the chosen date
Power AutomateRecurrence trigger, by interval and frequencyOnly with a connector that can post to groupsNoEvery WhatsApp route needs a premium licence
Campaign softwareRecurring schedules on a calendarYes, groups your numbers belong toNoPaid; a paced tool spreads each run over a window

Phone methods are fine for a couple of personal reminders. Anything a business depends on, such as rent or fee reminders to a hundred families, should run somewhere that doesn't need one person's phone to be awake at 09:00.

What should a recurring WhatsApp message say?

The reminders that work are ones the recipient asked for or expects, at a predictable time. In these examples, words in double braces are placeholders filled from a sheet on each run, so the dates and amounts are never stale; personalising messages from a sheet explains how. For more wording, see payment reminder messages.

How do you set up a weekly WhatsApp reminder in n8n?

  1. Create a workflow and set its timezone to Asia/Kolkata in the workflow settings. A self-hosted n8n instance otherwise runs on New York time.
  2. Add a Schedule Trigger with the Weeks interval, Monday under Trigger on Weekdays, 9am under Trigger at Hour and 0 under Trigger at Minute.
  3. Add a Google Sheets node with the Get Row(s) operation to read your list, then a Filter node that keeps only rows still due, such as Status is Unpaid.
  4. Add the WhatsApp step. n8n's built-in WhatsApp Business Cloud node sends from a business number set up through Meta; for anyone who hasn't written to you in the last 24 hours it can send only message formats Meta has approved, and it can't post to groups. A service for numbers linked by QR code, such as WavesFlo's REST API called from an HTTP Request node, sends from an existing number and into its groups.
  5. Log each send with a Google Sheets node using Append Row, so next week's run and your team can see what went out.
  6. Save and publish the workflow. n8n's Schedule Trigger only runs once the workflow is published.
For monthly reminders, n8n's Months interval doesn't run in a month that lacks the chosen day: pick the 30th and nothing goes out in February. Choose a date from the 1st to the 28th.

Recurring campaigns on a calendar

Campaign software runs recurring sends without anyone's phone or laptop needing to be awake. In WavesFlo, a campaign can repeat on a calendar schedule, to a contact list or into the groups your numbers belong to, with one personalised message per row of a Google Sheet or CSV. Quiet hours stop it going out at night, an optional approval step waits for a person to sign off, and the opt-out register is checked at the moment each message is sent, so someone who opted out last week is skipped this week. For weekly group posts, sending one message to many groups covers timing.

Pacing applies to every run. Each number has daily and hourly ceilings, so a long list goes out over a window rather than in one minute; the pacing defaults explain the timings, and are worth reading before you plan anything daily to the same people. Results for each run come from delivery receipts, and replies arrive in the shared inbox with every other chat.

Mistakes that get recurring messages muted

  • Reminding people who have already acted. Take out anyone who has paid or replied before the next run, or have each run read a sheet you keep current.
  • Relative dates. "Tomorrow" and "this Friday" go wrong when a run is held by quiet hours or a holiday. Write the date, or fill it from the sheet.
  • The same words every week. People stop reading a message that never changes. Lead with what's new, and compare read rates run by run; campaign metrics explains which numbers to trust.
  • No end and no way out. Give each series an end, such as the last instalment or the end of term, and stop at once for anyone who asks. WhatsApp's business policy requires you to honour every request to stop.
  • Bad timing. Avoid early mornings, late nights and festival days; send at the hour your audience actually reads.
  • A lost posting right. If a group switches to admins-only messages, a sending number that isn't an admin can't post there, and every run to that group fails until it is made an admin.
  • A group switched to Restricted chat. If a group's admins turn on WhatsApp's Restricted chat, nobody in it can use linked devices for that chat, so a tool sending from a number linked by QR code can't post there until it is turned off.

Questions

Can WhatsApp send a message every day automatically?

Not by itself, as of October 2026: WhatsApp has no repeat or scheduling option for ordinary chats. An iPhone Shortcuts automation can run daily, and tools such as n8n, Power Automate or campaign software can repeat a WhatsApp message daily, weekly or monthly.

How do I send a monthly payment reminder on WhatsApp?

Keep who owes what in a sheet, then use a tool that repeats monthly and reads the sheet on each run, such as n8n's Schedule Trigger or campaign software with recurring schedules. Pick a day from the 1st to the 28th, and remove people who have paid before each run.

Can I schedule a recurring message in a WhatsApp group?

Not in WhatsApp itself as of October 2026. A group event reminds members about one date and has no repeat option. Campaign software with recurring schedules can post into groups your number belongs to, as can workflow tools with a connector that supports groups.

Does WhatsApp Business have recurring broadcasts?

No. As of October 2026, business broadcasts, available only in some countries, are sent now or scheduled once, and you can duplicate an earlier one to send it again, but there is no repeat setting. Once any free messages are used, each send is paid per delivered message.

Will WhatsApp's own scheduler support repeating messages?

WhatsApp hasn't said, and as of October 2026 its scheduler hasn't been released. WABetaInfo's June 2026 report on the scheduler WhatsApp was testing describes one-off messages from 10 minutes to two weeks ahead, and doesn't mention repeats.
