A good introduction in a WhatsApp group is three lines: your name and what you do, why you are in the group, and what you hope to get from it. Post it once, after you have read the description, and do not tag everyone. Below are twelve samples to adapt; replace the square brackets.

Replying to a welcome

What should you avoid?

  • Your phone number or address. Others can see your number already.
  • Selling in your first message, unless the group is for it.
  • Tagging everyone. In large groups only admins can use @all.
  • Long life stories. People read on phones, between other things.

If you are the admin writing a welcome for newcomers, see group welcome messages. For introducing yourself to a customer on WhatsApp, see the introduction message guide.

Questions

What should I write as my first message in a WhatsApp group?

Your name, what you do or why you are there, and what you hope to gain, in two or three lines.

Should I tag everyone when I introduce myself?

No. In groups over 32 members only admins can use @all, and it is unwelcome in any case.

Should I put my number in my introduction?

No. Members can already see it in Group info.
