A WhatsApp group voice or video call takes up to 32 people. The group itself can hold up to 1,024 members, so in a large group not everyone can be on the call. For a video call in a bigger group, you pick up to 31 others to ring.

How do you start a call in a large group?
- Open the group chat and tap the call icon.
- Choose voice or video.
- Because only 32 people fit, select up to 31 others to ring, then start.
- Others in the group who open the group can see an ongoing call and may be able to join while there is room.
Menu names change by version. If you cannot add more people, you have reached the cap, not a fault with your phone.
What if you need more than 32 people?
- Split the group into two or more calls by topic or region, and share notes afterwards in the group.
- Use a poll to gather views from the whole group first; a poll takes up to 12 options.
- Post a recorded summary as a voice note, so people who could not join can still listen.
- For a large audience that only needs to listen, a webinar tool or a channel is built for it; a group call is not.
