Forwarded many times means a message has already been passed through a chain of five or more chats before it reached you. WhatsApp marks it with a double-arrow icon, and from then on it can be forwarded to only one chat at a time. The label appeared in 2020 to slow the spread of chain messages.
How many times must a message be forwarded?
Five or more chats in a chain. WhatsApp itself cannot see the count, because the counter each message carries is end-to-end encrypted. That is why it is a label the app applies on your phone, not something WhatsApp can look up.

Why does WhatsApp do this?
The limits keep conversations intimate and personal and help prevent spam and misinformation, in the words of WhatsApp's help centre. It said that total forwards fell 25% worldwide after its first limits, and that highly forwarded messages fell 70% after the one-chat rule in April 2020.
How should you treat a Forwarded many times message?
- Pause before you pass it on. A double arrow means it did not start with someone you know.
- Look for the original source before you believe it: an official site, a named report, a date.
- If it is a scam or false, tell the person who sent it to you; do not forward it to warn others.
- If it is a business message you want to send, write it yourself or use a tool built for sending to many.
