Why can't I tag everyone in a WhatsApp group? @all rules and fixes

If @all does not work in your WhatsApp group, the usual causes are a group over 32 members, an unselected suggestion, or a feature not yet on your account.

If @all does not work, check five things in this order: whether your group has more than 32 members and you are not an admin, whether only admins can send messages, whether you selected the @all suggestion, whether the feature has reached your account, and whether you are on the Windows or Mac app. WhatsApp announced @all on 4 August 2026, and as of October 2026 its help centre still described it as being built and tested.

Checked against WhatsApp's help centre on 8 October 2026.

What if @all went out but nobody noticed?

  • They may have muted @all mentions for this group.
  • WhatsApp notifications may be off in their phone's settings, which override WhatsApp's own.
  • Someone who muted their one-to-one chat with you may not be alerted by your mentions.

What can you do instead?

  • Mention people one by one with @ and a name, in groups where @all is not available.
  • Pin a short message and ask admins to post a reminder.
  • Ask people to unmute the group for a one-off event.
  • For a large audience, use a community announcement, which reaches everyone in the community.
